Christmas Bandstand 2009
What a contrast to September! The Southend Band dressed up and together with their loyal audience braved the snowy freezing weather to play Christmas carols at the Bandstand in Priory Park on Sunday 20th December. Although the weather was cold the mood was warm as everyone joined in the fun. A big thankyou to Southend Choral Society for their musical support for this event.

The good news at Christmas is that together over £150 was raised for the Mayor's charity The Sycamore Fund which support's Southend's young carers.

Bandstand September 2009
The audience bought the sunshine and a picnic to join the band for the last concert of the summer at the bandstand in Priory Park. More photos to follow.

Leigh Male Orpheus Choir
Once again, it was a privilige to join the LMOS
for our latest concert. The venue, the Hadleigh Salvation
Army Citidel is a pleasure to play at as the acoustics are
wonderful. The beginning and the climax of the evening was the choir and band
making superb music in the joint items. Thank you to all who
attended the concert and to all those of you who thanked us
personally. We delighted in all your lovely comments.
Hurray!! The Bandstage is back.
The bandstage has made a comeback at
Priory Park on Sunday 20th July. Southend Band as the town's
Civic Band, had the honour of being asked to play for the
grand opening. What a grand affair it was with the Lady Mayor
Gwen Horrigan making a rousing speech and cutting the ribbon.
The large enthusiastic audience applauded the band as we opened
with Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001- A Space Odyssey). As the
band tried to keep a hold on music that was blowing away in
the wind we played a mixture of traditional marches, and more
modern upbeat music.
We thank all those who congratulated
us on our performance, the band certainly enjoyed themselves,
both band and audience had a brilliant afternoon.

Watch this space we are back
on September 13th at 3pm.

Park Bandstand Diary, please view the band's

Music for a Summer's Evening
The band had a wonderful time at Thorpe
Bay Methodist Church on Saturday 19th July. We were joined
by the Fidelio Singers who sang some wonderful harmonised
songs. Together with their conductor Margaret Cozens and accompanist
Neil Clary, really made the evening.
Belles with Brass May 9th. Many thanks to all those who came along to support the band, the St Bernards High School for Girls and The Koinonia Trust. A princely sum of approx £1500 was raised by the concert for the Trust. So congratulations to all.

‘The band had a very successful concert at Southend Salvation Army Hall. We had an upbeat and varied program and together with our guest singer John Mitchenson an enjoyable evening was had by all.’
